2012, Day 1 - Palm Springs, California
This is what happens when we go with the flow…
Waking up on new years day isn’t always the most pleasant experience, but for my crew and I, it was straight breezy!
After kickin’ it poolside at the Caliente Tropics Hotel in Palm Springs, we drove around town, had a date shake at Indio’s famous Shield’s date farm, and as the planet gently rotated on its axis, so too did the sun begin to fade, ushering in pink stratus clouds and purple mountain peaks that glowed as if they were waiting all day for their own time in the sun.
Our last stop before getting back on the road was to meet up with our friend Sal - a desert native and awesome percussionist for the band Fool’s Gold - who happened to be unwinding and recovering with a couple other revelers from NYE’s festivities at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs the night before. Some bury their faces in a mountain of pillows in the dark when hungover, but then there are those sun babies and desert cats and kittens that prefer to climb the face of a mountain to watch darkness fall. To each their own, but goddamn if it wasn’t a beautiful way to start a new year!
Special thanks to The Coachella Valley Art Scene, The Barrios Sisters, Sal, Husni, Alex, and always giving thanks to Mama Natura herself.
